Bariloche, Argentina

I'll have to dig into my postcard archives to see if I can find a postcard I might have sent from Bariloche in 1978. At that time, I was traveling throughout South America.. We had traveled by boat/bus/boat/bus and boat from Chile into Argentina and were staying in the cheapest accommodations we could find. This postcard was sent recently from a fancy hotel there.

Camels in India?

I never imagined there were camels in India. But my friend, Andrew, went on a camel trek into the desert in India, I think in Rajastahn. It happens sometimes that the automated mailing marks on a postcard cover up the description or name of a place, and in this case the spelling is Rogistahn. Can't find that on google. (See card.) From his note and later descriptions of his travels, it sounds amazing.

A Happy Buddha in Hangzhou, China

Even when the sender writes a brief note, there's still a bit of their personality in every word. I can picture my friend, Paula, giggling as she wrote the note about the beer belly. While she's traveled to China on business a million times, this was the first time she was a tourist only. I can tell she had fun!

Petra, Jordan

Stamps are the other cool thing about postcards. This postcard comes from my friends, Marsha and Ralph, who went out of their way to mail it from Jordan, just so Jordanian stamps would be on it.

Pink Flamingos in Florida

I love the pinks in this card.

Cape Horn, Chile

I love getting postcards in the mail. It's just a little taste of the place it came from, and for a brief moment I feel like I'm there. Instead of here.

My mom traveled to Chile and Argentina, and ended up at Cape Horn. Tierra del Fuego. I've been to Chile, but did not get that far south.

July 5 - First Posting of Postcards - Bhutan

Just jump in, as they say. So here goes. My first postcard post. From a collection of many many many postcards.

My goal: post a postcard a day, for the next 365 days. I might have to post multiples some days, if I am traveling (any opportunity to send a new postcard to myself!), but I will post 365 from today through the 4th of July next year.

This postcard just arrived from my friend Yolanda, who was traveling in Bhutan. It took less than 2 weeks to arrive in San Francisco, which is not always the case with postcards sent from exotic and distant locations.
